Grant's Whisky: The greatest job interview in the world
In August, Grant’s Whisky set out to find a global brand ambassador (unfortunately, I missed the call for applications!). The brand invited three finalists to travel around the world for ten days with a suitcase full of whisky as part of the «World’s Coolest Job Interview.» The trips were inspired by the legendary expedition undertaken in 1909 by Charles Grant Gordon, the son-in-law of company founder William Grant.
This opportunity captured the imagination around the world and resulted in almost 5,000 applications from candidates in 103 countries. Of the aspirants, 20 were shortlisted and they were flown in from 13 countries to take part in the event dubbed 'The Mixer' in Dufftown, Scotland, the spiritual home of the brand. After a series of challenges, the three finalists - Amy, a sports teacher living in Madrid, Danny, a whisky bartender from Edinburgh, and Linda, a radio presenter from Johannesburg - were sent to three different destinations around the world to 'do their job' for three days.
The finalists covered a total of 51,000 miles, visited 15 cities in nine countries on five continents and took a total of 20 international flights. They rode a Segway through Tel Aviv, took a tuk-tuk through Mumbai, a rickshaw through Taipei and a seaplane over the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Amy mixed cocktails in Krakow, Daniel hosted tastings in Taipei and Linda was the DJ in Colombia. Their ultimate goal was to bring life to the brand motto "Stand together". The successful candidate will be traveling to even more countries in 2018 to present a series of special events.
Oliver Dickson, Global Brand Director, reflects: "The response to the campaign has been amazing. When we launched the whole thing, who would have thought that we would attract such talented and diverse candidates? We tested their stamina, skills and creativity, but most importantly we were able to see how their passion adapts to different cultures. All three finalists embodied Grant's motto "Stand together", making the final decision all the more difficult.
The new Grant's brand ambassador will be announced on the official Grant's Instagram and Facebook channels on November 30, 2017.
