The animal welfare organization L214 points out that meat production is a massive waste of water.

The topic could not be more topical. If water is becoming scarce in many places, even in Switzerland, one can only imagine how valuable it is in even drier regions of the world. According to L214, it takes almost 8000 liters of water to produce one kilo of meat. This is by no means an exaggeration. Other estimates assume, for example, that over 15,000 liters of fresh water are needed to produce one kilogram of beef (according to Observer almost 17,000 liters). It should not only be clear to vegans and vegetarians that this valuable resource could be put to better use elsewhere. A general reduction in consumption would work wonders - and not just because of the water. For comparison: the production of one kilogram of wheat requires just 130 liters of water.

The French agency Brand Station visualizes the connection between meat and water with the steak pools. Even if the amount of water that the facilities shown hold is likely to be much higher - a little less animal on the plate would probably be good for everyone involved. First and foremost, of course, the animals. (hae)
