Beer power instead of a border wall

The Scottish brewery Brewdog plans to open a bar—right on the border between the U.S. and Mexico. This PR stunt appears to be for real.

The bar is to be called "The Bar on the Edge" and will be located half in Texas and half in Chihuahua. However, the exact location is "top secret", writes Brewdog in a statement on the Company website. The announcement of the project was celebrated in the USA with a Tex-Mex craft beer event. Although the project is being built somewhere in the middle of nowhere, it is hoped that the location will become a meeting place for many beer lovers - regardless of their nationality or ethnicity. Connecting people through beer. The bar motto: "Make beer not walls"

What sounds like a pure PR stunt is soon to become reality. "We will apply for permission from the local authorities and follow the official, bureaucratic process," says co-founder James Watt, who believes there is little chance of a positive decision. "It would probably make it more difficult to build the wall if a bar is in the way." So, if necessary, they will simply set up the bar and operate it until they are asked to remove it again.

The plan - however the story ends - will work out for Brewdog. Various renowned international media have already reported on "The Bar on the Edge" and the brewery and will continue to follow its implementation. And the Scots are also likely to have gained a lot of sympathy in the USA, at least among the part of the population that rejects Trump's wall plan. (hae)
