A poster on rails in Belgium demonstrated the difference between summer and winter tires.

Tires are the wrong place to save on driving. The reason is on the road - even without snow and ice. Incorrect or old rubber massively increases the braking distance. Just one meter can decide whether you come to a stop just before or just after a pedestrian.

In Brussels, the Air agency set up a somewhat rickety-looking construction to draw the attention of motorists standing at traffic signals to the difference. For four days, BMW was shown what distance is being talked about. When you have to brake as fast as possible, literally every meter counts.

Whether this is a road safety campaign facilitated by BMW or is intended to boost BMW dealers' tire sales in all seriousness remains an open question. At least we have now seen a poster on rails. (hae)
