Probably the best-known representatives of Graubünden - the cult ibexes Gian and Giachen - made children's eyes light up a year and a half ago with their first children's book. "Gian und Giachen und der furchtlose Schneehase Vincenz" sold over 22,500 copies and occupied first place in the "Children's and Young Adult Books" segment of the Swiss bestseller list for 21 weeks. "After this huge success, it was a matter of course for us to continue the adventures of our cheeky but warm-hearted Grisons originals," says Martin Vincenz, CEO of Graubünden Ferien.

Two generations should meet again

Graubünden Ferien wants to give Swiss grandmothers and grandfathers something that will give them and their grandchildren unforgettable moments together. That's why the current "Gian and Giachen" children's book will only be available to grandparents for more than two weeks - the official sales launch for everyone else will take place on April 27, 2018. "We are delighted to play a small part in bringing these two generations a little closer together again and inspiring each other," says Martin Vincenz, explaining the idea behind the grandparents' right of first refusal.

80 bookshops take part in the advance sale

Over 80 bookshops in German-speaking Switzerland take part in the pre-sale, ensuring an overwhelming success in the run-up to the event. On April 11, dozens of grandparents were delighted at the biggest pre-sale event at the Orell Füssli branch at Kramhof in Zurich. Grandparent verification is done in a charming way: In the bookstores, buyers confirm their grandparent status with a family photo or a child's drawing. "Or they bring their grandchild with them as proof," says Martin Vincenz with a smile.
