Ronald McDonald House Switzerland: Rebranding After More Than 30 Years

Since May 12, 2026, the Ronald McDonald Children’s Foundation has been operating under the name «Ronald McDonald House Switzerland.» In addition to the new name, the Ronald McDonald House rebranding also includes a redesigned logo: A red house with a white heart is meant to symbolize what the foundation stands for—a temporary home for families whose children are hospitalized. Since its founding in 1992, 28,000 families have taken advantage of this service.

With its new brand identity, the foundation—which is funded entirely by donations—is placing greater emphasis on its houses. Andrea Hemmi, director of Ronald McDonald House Switzerland, explains the reasoning behind this: «When a child is in the hospital, the whole family’s life is thrown off balance. The Ronald McDonald Houses allow parents and siblings to stay close to the sick child. With the new name and logo, we’re making it clearer what we’ve been dedicated to in Switzerland for over 30 years: providing families in a difficult situation with a loving temporary home.»

An international project with local roots

The new brand identity was developed as part of an international project led by the parent foundation in Chicago. In collaboration with more than 60 national foundations, a globally consistent brand identity was developed that also takes local characteristics into account. The color of the new logo reflects the long-standing partnership with McDonald’s Switzerland, a partner that has provided significant support to the Swiss foundation since its founding in 1992. The name appears in German, French, and Italian—a deliberate decision intended to underscore the foundation’s local roots in Switzerland. The rebranding will take place in phases through the end of the year.

28,000 families and soon seven houses

Over the past three decades, the Ronald McDonald Houses in Geneva, Bern, St. Gallen, Basel, and Lucerne have enabled approximately 28,000 families to stay close to their hospitalized children, with a total of more than 237,000 overnight stays. The six houses currently have 49 rooms for parents and families. Last year, families spent an average of nine days at the Ronald McDonald Houses, with an occupancy rate of 71 percent.

In September, another house with 20 additional rooms will open right next to the University Children's Hospital in Zurich—another step in expanding the services offered under the new brand name Ronald McDonald House Switzerland.
