Youtube relies on movies and TV shows with advertising
The Google subsidiary YouTube wants to lure more viewers with exclusive content such as films and TV shows. The aim is to make its entire program available to users free of charge, the company announced on Wednesday night.
From 2020, a subscription will no longer be necessary, and advertising will be shown instead. This marks an about-turn in strategy. Previously, only paying viewers were able to watch the content produced by YouTube. They can continue to watch the programs without advertising. So far, YouTube has left open how many members the company has been able to attract to the paid service, which has been active for three years. In the face of increasing competition from Facebook subsidiary Instagram, as well as streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime, YouTube needs to expand its customer base. Exclusive content and price are the main reasons why people choose a service. (SDA)
