Viva and Geyst develop new portal for Zurich Cantonal Sports Association

Just in time for its 75th anniversary, the Zurich Cantonal Sports Association (ZKS) is launching its new, comprehensive website. It offers a glimpse into the wide variety of sports activities available at the club and association levels. The website also highlights the ZKS’s wide range of services. It was developed and implemented by Viva and Geyst as part of a close collaboration.

The SEO-optimized website serves as a source of information and inspiration for the 64 member associations, 2,300 clubs, 80,000 volunteers and 371,000 members of the ZKS. "The new design with a clear information architecture" strongly expresses the emotionality of sport - also thanks to larger and more emotional images.

Geyst (information architecture, design and programming) and Viva (content concept, content), long-standing communication partners of the ZKS, won the tender. The two agencies based in Zurich-Altstetten worked hand in hand to make the mammoth project a success. "We were very impressed by the expertise and passion of both companies," says Josy Beer, Managing Director of ZKS, adding: "I have always found the collaboration to be very cooperative, constructive and goal-oriented."

The ZKS deliberately opted for a website that is geared towards content management in order to provide members with interesting information on and from club sport at regular intervals. At the same time, the existing content from Viva was prepared for the new site and adapted to the new formats and templates by Geyst. The modern, dynamic and sporty website is characterized in particular by the fact that information can be found and displayed quickly.

"Each member association has its own subpage on which it briefly and concisely introduces itself and presents its sports and disciplines," explains Josy Beer. "In addition, the wide range of ZKS services for sports associations and clubs are clearly presented. And last but not least, the website brings the sense of unity in Zurich's club and association sport to life."

The centerpiece is the homepage with regularly updated articles from and for the world of club sports. Another central point is "usability". Geyst's programmers have overcome some major hurdles. For example, there was the question of how to handle all the numerous different authorizations required for the various users of the ZKS website. Or how best to connect to Alabus, the ZKS's widely used database. The result is that, for example, the various committees can view their meeting documents on the website without unauthorized persons having access to them.
