Tamedia launches game apps for several news titles
Tamedia is expanding its digital offerings and launching game apps for additional news titles. Following the successful launch with the *Tages-Anzeiger* in December 2025, the puzzle and brain-teaser games are now also available for the *Basler Zeitung*, the *Berner Zeitung*, and *24 heures*. With this move, Tamedia is taking a pioneering role in Switzerland and is the first media company to launch such an offering for multiple news titles.

For many people, games like Sudoku have long been part of everyday digital life - as a short break, as a daily ritual or as a conscious way of finding a balance. Tamedia is responding to this need and expanding its digital offering: Following the successful launch with the Tages-Anzeiger, the games apps are now also available for the Basler Zeitung, the Berner Zeitung and 24 heures. Tamedia is thus taking on a pioneering role in Switzerland and is the first media company to launch such a service for several news titles.
«With our games app, we are creating a service that brings people to us every day - regardless of whether they want to find out more or consciously take a short break. For existing users, we are expanding the experience around our brands, while at the same time addressing new target groups who find us through games,» says Marc Isler, Managing Director Premium Digital at Tamedia.
Prize draw and a variety of game formats
Tamedia is launching an accompanying competition at the start of the campaign: users of the app have the chance to win CHF 10,000.
With the apps, Tamedia is bundling various popular game formats into a separate application. These include the games Flow, Word Search, Mosaic, Switch, Sudoku, crossword puzzles and a news quiz with new questions every weekday. Users receive new puzzles every day and can track their progress. The usage figures for the Tages-Anzeiger app also encouraged the roll-out to other brands.
Successful usage figures from the soft launch
The first figures from the soft launch at Tages-Anzeiger show the high appeal of the offering: 98 percent of daily use comes from returning users, 77 percent play two or more games per day. The most played game is Flow.
Freemium model with subscriber benefits
The game apps are based on a freemium model. All games can be tried out once free of charge when downloading. Afterwards, selected games, including Flow and Mosaik, remain free to play every day. Subscribers get access to additional features such as an archive of past puzzles, community features and the ability to track their progress. New users can test the service free of charge for 14 days.
The game apps are available at: Tages-Anzeiger, Bernese Newspaper, Basel Newspaper and 24 heures.
