Syndicom sees need for further training regulations in ICT sector
According to the Syndicom union, there is a clear need for action in the information and communications technology (ICT) sector to include continuing education provisions in employment contracts. This is supported by a survey conducted in collaboration with the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland.

Media materials accompanying an online media conference held by Syndicom on Tuesday said 70 percent of respondents in the survey said their employers expected them to participate in continuing education. For 80 percent of the respondents, the last visit to a training course had been financially supported.
Further training regulations in employment contracts - at best collectively secured for all via a CLA - had a positive effect on the further training conditions of ICT employees. On the one hand, those with regulations were more likely to receive financial support for their training activities. On the other hand, those without training regulations in their employment contract were more often forced not to attend training due to lack of time.
Further training instead of staff reductions
Companies have a responsibility to train employees in anticipation of the digital transformation instead of cutting staff, writes Syndicom. A paradigm shift in corporate training policy is now necessary.
The study also showed that younger men with a high level of education were more likely to benefit from the training on offer. In order to strengthen the workplace, the industry and policymakers are now called upon to support specific training and continuing education programs that are accessible to all, especially for the benefit of women, older employees and people with a migration background.
