Swisscom to contribute to the digitization of all regions
On Wednesday, the Federal Council set Swisscom’s strategic goals for 2018 through 2021. A new element of these goals is the mandate for Swisscom to use its infrastructure and services to contribute to digitalization in all regions of Switzerland.

The Federal Office for the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC) announced on Wednesday that this confirms Swisscom's existing strategy of promoting its networks in all parts of the country over the next four years. The parliamentary committees for transport and telecommunications had recommended that the Federal Council include this expectation in the strategic objectives.
As Swisscom's strategic management had proven its worth in the past, the Federal Council had otherwise only made minor changes to the wording of the objectives. Individual points have also been adapted to the current development of the company and the market environment.
The new strategic goals for Swisscom will apply from the coming financial year until the end of 2021. The Confederation is its majority shareholder. The Federal Council therefore sets the strategic goals with which it manages the company for four years at a time. These include the expectation that Swisscom will ensure the statutory universal service.
The company must be managed in a competitive and customer-oriented manner, increase the company value in the long term and operate a "progressive and socially responsible personnel policy" "as an attractive employer". Shareholdings in foreign telecommunications companies with a universal service mandate remain prohibited. (SDA)
