Artificial intelligence is becoming a business-critical infrastructure for Swiss companies. However, many existing AI platforms were designed for global scalability—not for a highly regulated, national environment where data security, transparency regarding data flows, and clear legal responsibilities are essential. Through an exclusive strategic partnership, Sunrise and PHOENIQS aim to close this gap and make sovereign Swiss AI accessible to business customers.

Entirely in Switzerland – Sovereign Swiss AI Without Compromise

Thanks to this partnership, Sunrise is the only Swiss telecommunications provider able to offer its business customers AI solutions that are developed, hosted, and operated entirely in Switzerland. This means: no data flows to foreign data centers, no dependence on global cloud platforms, and operations conducted exclusively in accordance with Swiss law. Employees can access confidential business and customer data without that data leaving Switzerland or being used to train AI models.

The planned offering is aimed at large enterprises, the public sector, and SMEs—particularly in regulated industries such as the financial services sector, healthcare, public administration, and the energy sector. It is designed to include various modular components that can be combined to meet the specific needs of different companies.

A Focus on Regulated Industries

In regulated environments in particular—such as the financial and insurance sectors, the healthcare sector, or the public sector—the requirements for AI applications are especially high. The company’s offering is designed to address these needs: the development, hosting, and operation of the AI infrastructure are based exclusively on infrastructure located in Switzerland. According to the company, PHOENIQS, headquartered in Pfäffikon SZ, controls the entire technology stack—from hardware and the operating system to cloud infrastructure and AI platforms—thereby ensuring complete digital sovereignty and independence from extraterritorial legal regulations.

Modular building blocks across the entire AI value chain

The planned offering is intended to include various components that address different requirements across the entire AI value chain—from ready-to-use applications and access to language models to infrastructure and secure connectivity. It will also cover generative AI, assistants, and agents; the execution of language models via digital interfaces (APIs); and the data and computing processes required for AI applications.

In addition to direct business customers, the offering is also aimed at the Sunrise B2B partner network. System integrators, IT service providers, software companies, and industry specialists should be able to use the AI components as the basis for their own solutions, combine them with existing products, and resell them under their own brand.

A long-term partnership with a clear division of roles

The partnership is exclusively focused on Sunrise as a telecommunications provider and is designed for the long term. It combines PHOENIQS’s expertise in AI infrastructure with Sunrise’s B2B market access and partner network. The division of roles remains clear: Sunrise will not become an AI infrastructure operator itself, and PHOENIQS does not need to adjust its role as a technology provider. According to the announcement, the market launch is scheduled for the near future.

Thorsten Haeser, Chief Business Officer at Sunrise, sees the partnership as a strategic differentiator: «Artificial intelligence is becoming a core strategic infrastructure for businesses. With PHOENIQS, we enable our business customers to use powerful AI solutions that are operated entirely in Switzerland—without compromising on data protection, compliance, and digital sovereignty.»

Thomas Taroni, founder and chairman of the board of directors at PHOENIQS, emphasizes the strategic importance of this move: «The partnership with Sunrise is a key step for us in making our AI infrastructure more widely accessible in the Swiss market. By integrating our solutions into B2B offerings, we can reach companies of various sizes and across different industries, while still remaining fully focused on our role as an infrastructure and technology provider.»
