Around 6000 customers bought bitcoins from SBB in the first year
To date, 6,000 customers have purchased bitcoins at SBB ticket machines. SBB spokesperson Christian Ginsig confirmed this to the Handelszeitung.

"The trend is slightly increasing. Half of the people have bought Bitcoins regularly," he says. The state-owned company does not provide any information about the volume purchased, but basically speaks of "pleasing figures." A year ago, SBB entered the new world of cryptocurrencies.
Between 20 and 500 francs can be exchanged for bitcoins per transaction at the machines, with a maximum of 5,000 francs possible per year. Customers are identified by their cell phone number and pay with cash or debit card.
The whole thing is a two-year pilot project launched a year ago. The background is SBB's efforts to make its dense vending machine network more profitable. The project is now running unchanged in its second year. It is still not possible to pay for tickets with the new currency at SBB. (pd/hae)
