Swisscom's competitors join forces
The Openaxs association is transferring its operations to the Suissedigital association. This move is intended to allow members active in the Swiss fiber-optic market to benefit from broader support. Some have already made the switch.

Openaxs, the association of Swiss energy providers, has been committed to non-discriminatory fiber construction in Switzerland since 2008 and initiated the establishment of Swiss Fibre Net. Today, fiber construction in the cities is practically complete. Away from the centers, it is difficult to get past Swisscom's quasi-monopoly under the framework conditions of the new Telecommunications Act.
The board of Openaxs has therefore looked around for a partner who can effectively promote good framework conditions in the fiber optic market. "Suissedigital has a much broader base than Openaxs and is therefore the best future solution for Openaxs members," says Franz Stampfli, President of Openaxs. The association has thus ceased operations as of the end of 2019.
With the possibility of integrating Openaxs members, Suissedigital in turn wants to strengthen its position as a support and exchange platform for all communications network operators competing with Swisscom. "Together we can achieve even more - always in the service of the highest possible performance telecom infrastructure in Switzerland," says Simon Osterwalder, Managing Director of Suissedigital.
The first members have already joined, including Azienda Multiservizi Bellinzona (AMB), Romande Energie, Kommunikationsnetz Däniken and Swiss Fibre Net (as a supporting member).
