Liip launches Image Service
With its digital image service Rokka, Liip is launching a tool for managing digital images.

Our communication is changing away from text to more images. This increases our need for storage space and more bandwidth, but also complicates the handling of images in classic web projects. Liip's project teams therefore regularly encountered cumbersome and error-prone handling of images. They were overwritten, caused caching problems and slowed down the loading time of websites due to incorrect compression. In addition, new image formats led to immense effort when providing images manually.
API specialist Christian Riesen did not want to accept this state of affairs any longer and launched Rokka at one of the Liip Innovation Days.

Consistent best practice approach
One of the biggest mistakes is that many content management systems treat images like HTML content. Such solutions work, but satisfy neither developers nor customers.
Rokka provides a remedy here. The focus on high-performance and secure delivery of images allows the service to consistently follow the best-practice approach. And it saves time. Companies define their image formats, which enables Rokka to automatically provide all images in all desired formats. Even for image formats added later. And with the Subject Area, the relevant section is central to the image.

Unlike conventional solutions, Rokka offers the important features such as subject area, worldwide CDN, auto cropping or SEO as standard. In addition, the software does not use package poker and only charges for the effective use of storage space and traffic. Rokka customers have an overview of the storage space they use and the traffic they generate at all times. Thus, they receive a transparent and comprehensible breakdown of their costs.
Well-known customers count on Rokka
The Rokka beta version was launched over a year ago. It has been in use at bag manufacturer Freitag since August 2016. Benjamin Caviezel, Specialist New Media at Freitag: "We photograph around 60,000 unique items per year, which led to an enormous amount of data and a lot of effort in image management. Thanks to Rokka, we save time, storage space and benefit from the device-specific provision of images. Besides Freitag, Rokka has already convinced Migros and other Swiss flagships.
| Rokka is a CMS-independent image service developed by the web agency Liip. Currently there are client libraries for PHP, Drupal, Symfony and JavaScript, soon a plugin for WordPress will follow. |
