Jung von Matt/Tech creates a major digital event with SwissSkills Connect
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, SwissSkills had to postpone its major event—the SwissSkills 2020 National Vocational Championships in Bern—by two years. Jung von Matt/Tech, in collaboration with the foundation, has developed an alternative, digital experience for students.

Instead of on-site in Bern, thousands of school students will now have the opportunity to interact with young professional champions on the "SwissSkills Connect" platform between September 15 and 17, 2020, and be inspired by them when choosing a career. This will enable a "digital taster" of around 100 different professions.
The digital experience was developed as part of a creative design sprint. The target groups (high school students) and professional champions were included in the concept development to ensure the greatest possible user centricity. The platform was created "SwissSkills Connect"which is designed to provide inspiring access to around 100 different apprenticeships via personal profiles of over 200 professional champions.
Experience apprenticeships through champions
The "career champions", the best young talents in specific professions, provide an insight into their professional world on their personal profile pages. With information about the career path and everyday working life of specific professions as well as answers to the most important questions about the field of work, users receive a tangible job description. Users also get to know the champions from a different perspective through their personal taste in music and their favorite songs.
A customized web application solution
All profile content was created by the professional champions themselves. The basis for this is the Neos CMS. Over 200 amateur editors from all language regions of Switzerland were able to participate in the content creation process without any training or laborious approval processes. In addition to the open source Neos CMS, Elasticsearch, Tailwind CSS and Alpine.js were also used for SwissSkills.
Long-term access
During the three-day Inspiration Days, over 270 moderated live video chats will take place in German and French. On October 2, around 60 additional chats will be held in Italian. This will give high school students the opportunity to ask the career champions their most pressing questions directly and gain even more insight into everyday working life. The interactive setup of "SwissSkills Connect" creates long-term access to the world of work that lasts beyond the digital live events.
