Digital audio advertising is growing at an above-average rate. This is according to the latest market figures survey by the audio focus group of the German Digital Economy Association (BVDW).

Accordingly, the sales volume in the past year 2016 amounted to 25 million euros. For the first half of 2017, the experts expect growth of 40% compared to the same period last year.

After the Webradiomonitor 2016 showed a strong increase in the popularity of online audio content, its popularity among advertisers is now also on the rise. The current expert estimate for investments in digital advertising by the BVDW's audio focus group amounts to EUR 25 million for the past year and shows strong growth: the experts expect growth of 40% for the first half of 2017.

Rainer Henze, Chairman of the BVDW Audio Focus Group, explains in a press release: "Online audio is booming. We have been seeing an extremely positive trend in advertising revenues for several years now. This development makes online audio the most dynamically growing media category - we also expect an increase of a good 40 percent for 2017 as a whole."

The market development in Germany is in line with the international trend: "The German online audio market is growing at a similar rate to other markets with comparable per capita investments in digital advertising," says Daniel Knapp, who moderated and oversaw the content of the market figures survey at the BVDW. "We assume that this trend will continue. In the UK, for example, absolute online audio advertising revenues are even higher today than in Germany, despite a traditionally smaller radio market there. There is still room for improvement in Germany." Rainer Henze also confirms this impression: "The latest figures from Funkanalyse Bayern show that online audio is continuing to grow, not least among young listeners. This is an excellent basis for convincing even more advertisers of the genre."
