HWZ further develops its Bachelor's degree program in Business Informatics
The Zurich School of Business has further developed its Bachelor's degree program in Business Informatics and repositioned it under the new name "Bachelor Digital Business & AI".
In future, the degree program will place a stronger focus on digital business models, artificial intelligence, leadership and individual specializations through majors in order to optimally prepare students for the challenges of the digital economy.
The world of work is changing rapidly and the demands on future specialists and managers are more diverse than ever. The HWZ School of Business is responding to these developments by renaming the Bachelor of Business Informatics to Bachelor of Digital Business & AI. The name change is just one visible sign of far-reaching changes to the content that will make the course more modern, practical and future-proof.
"By renaming and realigning the content of the course, we are taking into account the requirements of the modern working world," explains Rahel Sulzberger, who heads the Bachelor's degree course together with Silvana Cucu. "The Bachelor Digital Business & AI not only teaches technical know-how, but also the social and communication skills that are essential today."
New accents for the digital future
The newly designed course integrates technical, business and social skills and places particular emphasis on topics relevant to the future:
- Software Engineering: Students deepen their technical skills and work on practice-oriented projects, such as the development of their own app over two semesters.
- AI & Data Science: A strong focus on the processing and use of data with AI opens up new perspectives for the use of this technology in business.
- Digital business: Business management topics are consistently thought through digitally in order to redesign business processes and align them with digitalization.
- Leadership: The focus is on developing leadership and social skills in order to equip students with the necessary tools for future leadership positions.
More than technology: the focus is on people
In addition to technological knowledge, the Bachelor Digital Business & AI places particular emphasis on promoting social and communication skills. This combination prepares students not only for technical challenges, but also for interpersonal and organizational requirements in the working world.
Practice-oriented teaching with specialization in the major
The close link between theory and practice remains a central feature of the course. Students apply the knowledge they have acquired directly in real projects and thus gain valuable experience. Teaching on the Bachelor in Digital Business & AI takes place in small study groups, which facilitates an intensive exchange with lecturers. Self-study and project work complement each other in order to apply and deepen theoretical knowledge in the classroom.
In their final year of study, students choose a major in order to specialize in a particular subject area and thus pursue their career goals in a targeted manner. One example of this is the major "UX & Data-Driven Organizations", which combines two important topics of the digital age: user experience (UX) and data-driven organizations. In this major, students learn both the technical and psychological foundations for designing digital products and services in a user-friendly way and at the same time optimizing them with the help of data.
In addition to this major, students can choose from other specializations: AI Marketing & Sales / Business Psychology, Integrated Digital Business & AI Management, Consulting, Coaching & Leadership / Business Psychology, Sustainable Business Development & Entrepreneurship and Business Law & Compliance. Each specialization opens up specific fields of specialization in order to optimally prepare students for their professional goals.
The next Bachelor Digital Business & AI course at the HWZ will start in fall 2025. You can find more information about the course here here
