For those surveyed, simple user guidance is the most important quality criterion for a news app (79.6%). Also very important: an appealing design (75.5 percent) and no intrusive advertising (69.4 percent). Good and stable performance and mobile-friendly content (67.4% each) are also crucial for a successful app. In contrast, customization options (24.5%) and interactivity (18.4%) are only of minor importance to app users.

The respondents rated the five most popular Swiss news apps according to the criteria of design, operation, performance, functions and overall impression. The app of the young media brand Watson was rated best. This comes as little surprise, as Watson is specifically positioning itself as a mobile-affine medium. In second place is the NZZ app, which scored particularly well in terms of performance. The most-used Swiss news app, 20 Minuten, came in third place, followed by the Tagesanzeiger app in fourth place. In last place is the Blick app. The PDF with the infographics is available to download and print out here.

Comments: Which is the best Swiss news app and why?

"It's the NZZ. No irrelevant news, excellent writing style, sober and attractive screen design, excellent user guidance and overview of tools, news ticker omnipresent, no superfluous content or anything that distracts from the task of a medium. What I also like: Teaser photos are repeated in the articles - unfortunately this is not the case in Newsnetz, teaser and article images are very often different. Negative aspects of the NZZ app: Too few comments (unfortunately labeled "Opinion" in the overview, which could also be interpreted as reader comments) and the lack of "Bern" and "Romandie" sections. For me, the reference for overall app quality is the BBC NEWS app."Lahor Jaklin, Fruitcake Advertising + Press AG"In my opinion, the one from 20minuten. Clearly laid out with the 4-front cube and exciting content. High degree of individualization. Also good in the area of gamification, social interaction"Tobias Treichler , St.Gallen-Lake Constance Tourism"I like the SRF app very much in terms of speed and performance, and it's also very clear."Wolfgang Krüger, ElbbergMedia GmbH & Co. KG"The Watson app impresses with its content, design and user experience."René Lisi, RLC CONSULTING"Watson. Its the content, stupid!"Hansi Voigt"Look, because of updating and not too much content."Beni Müri, gotomo gmbh"20 minutes; best performance and everything at a glance."Yvonne Sieber_____________________You can read more about apps and Swiss media in the upcoming issue of Marketing & Communication 05/2016.
