Paying with a fitness smartwatch: Cornèrcard launches Fitbit Pay in Switzerland
Fitbit Pay is now available in Switzerland for the Fitbit Iconic health and fitness smartwatch. Cornèrcard customers can add their Visa credit or prepaid card to the Fitbit Iconic and make payments on the go right from their wrist.
According to the press release, the advantage of the system is that users can leave their smartphone and wallet at home and still store in stores that offer contactless payment. Payment is "as if by magic", the statement continues. All the user has to do is press and hold the left button until the credit or prepaid card appears on the Fitbit Ionic display. Then briefly hold the watch up to the payment terminal - if the payment is successful, a corresponding confirmation appears on the display. Fitbit Pay is available for Android and iOS smartphones.
Fitbit Pay is designed to meet high security requirements. Thanks to the use of an industry-standard tokenization platform, card information is encrypted and never displayed or shared with the retailer or Fitbit. In addition, a protected PIN code is determined by the user during setup in the Fitbit Wallet, which provides additional security.
