Eyeloveyou gets to the heart of practical relevance for FHNW

Projects with partners from business and industry are a central component of the practice-oriented degree programs at the FHNW University of Applied Sciences. This close connection to everyday professional life is at the heart of the «I’m studying at...» campaign developed by Eyeloveyou, which is aimed at young adults.

Computer science, electrical engineering, iCompetence: The ten fields of engineering study at the FHNW School of Engineering are diverse. Just as diverse are the more than 900 annual projects with partners from business and industry that form a central component of the practice-oriented degree program.

Close to the target group

The campaign takes place where the target group of tech-savvy young adults spends time: On the web, at schools and on public transport. With the regionally played out subjects, attention can be drawn precisely to the exciting courses of study and invitations to the information day can be issued.

150+ creative content ideas for your social media and online marketing.

  • Author: Roman Kmenta
  • Publisher: Roman Kmenta, 2020
  • Pages: 168
  • ISBN: 9783903845145

Advertising goes online. If you're not present online, you're not selling anything. But how can you draw attention to yourself? In his book, Roman Kmenta presents a whole cornucopia of ideas and explains what you should bear in mind when implementing them. He shows how social media works, and thus also picks up beginners. Even if not all of the ideas are new and revolutionary, the book can still powerfully stimulate the creativity of entrepreneurs, consultants and coaches from a wide range of industries. For these groups, therefore, a clear reading recommendation.

Think together

The VUKA world needs several heads.

  • Author: Carolin Wolf
  • Publisher: BusinessVillage GmbH, 2019
  • Pages: 240
  • ISBN: 9783869804705

Together, you're less alone - and you come up with the better ideas. But truly collaborative thinking needs to be learned. Just because several people are working together in a room, they don't automatically tap into their full shared potential. To really think together, you need a shared mindset and a willingness to embrace uncertainty. The book provides many ideas on how to fire up group thinking. Some of them are not necessarily new. Nevertheless, the book is well suited as a toolbox for managers and workshop leaders.

The art of leading a product development

Successful concepts from corporate practice.

  • Publisher: Springer Vieweg, 2019
  • Pages: 194
  • ISBN: 9783662578988

There are many different concepts of leadership. Some see themselves as authoritarian "doers," others as "enablers" who spur their team on to top performance. In 2007, Bosch set out to reorganize the company's leadership jungle. The result was an understanding of leadership as service - also known as "servant leadership. The new leadership concept was communicated throughout the Group in more than 4,500 workshops. The most important lessons can be found in this anthology. Although sometimes somewhat redundant, the book conveys an overall concept for the leadership of development projects.

Working Out Loud

So that connectedness, trust and community can grow.

  • Author: John Stepper
  • Publisher: Vahlen Verlag, 2020
  • Pages: 259
  • ISBN: 9783800662814

In the workplace, we are often self-conscious and hold back on many things. We don't say what would be important to us. Such controlled communication limits us, finds John Stepper, and declares this behavior a career brake. Not exactly selfless, he recommends joining the growing band of his followers who offer each other kindness and service. Nevertheless, his remarks are a benefit - they are suitable for helping empathy and productive exchange to their right in working life as well.

Pandemic slows down ProSiebenSat.1

Despite a strong finish with improved advertising revenue, the COVID-19 crisis hit ProSiebenSat.1 hard last year. Operating profit fell by about 19 percent to 706 million euros in 2020, and revenue declined by two percent to approximately 4.05 billion euros, the television group announced on Thursday.

Before the outbreak of the virus pandemic, the Bavarians had still targeted stagnating profits and around four percent more sales. "In 2020, we came out of the Covid 19 crisis quickly and strongly," said CEO Rainer Beaujean, referring to the fourth quarter. Here, the group increased profits by twelve percent to 377 million euros and made eleven percent more sales.

Weak advertising business

The advertising business in particular, which had slumped by 37 percent during the first lockdown in spring 2020, increased by three percent in the final quarter, which is so important for ProSiebenSat.1. "We are starting the new year optimistically," said Beaujean. In the current first quarter, Corona restrictions are likely to continue to weigh. But the Group CEO expects "a significant upswing in the further course of the year, as soon as the environment returns to normal.

Despite the hardly foreseeable course of the virus pandemic, the Group ventures a forecast for 2021, according to which operating profit is expected to rise to 720 to 780 million euros and sales are likely to increase to 4.15 to 4.35 billion euros. Meanwhile, the management and supervisory boards are proposing a dividend of 0.49 euros per share. (SDA)

Swiss Packaging Award 2021: These are the nominees

The nominees for the 2021 Swiss Packaging Award, presented by the Swiss Packaging Institute (SVI), have been announced. Twenty-four packaging solutions across six categories and two special awards are in the running for the prestigious Swiss Packaging Award. The winners will be announced on June 10.

Swiss Packaging Award 2021: A selection of this year's nominees.

A total of 46 packaging solutions were submitted by 34 different participants, including five entries for the Young Talent Award, in which schoolchildren and students were able to present their packaging ideas. The special circular economy award, which was offered for the first time, recorded 15 entries. The sustainability category was particularly well represented this year with 26 entries, reflecting the demands of the times: packaging companies are under enormous pressure to develop recyclable and reusable packaging, especially in the plastics sector. However, the large number of entries shows that the Swiss packaging industry is doing its homework, according to a statement from the Swiss Packaging Institute.

With the Swiss Packaging Award, the SVI honors outstanding achievements in packaging every year. The aim of the competition is to showcase the creativity and innovative strength of the Swiss packaging industry. Companies can submit their packaging solutions in the categories of sustainability, convenience, design, marketing, technology and construction. A maximum of three packaging solutions are nominated per category, one of which is chosen as the winner.

Packaging of all materials is eligible for the competition. The focus is on promoting and awarding holistic packaging solutions, regardless of the packaging material. This year, the special prize for recycling management was introduced for the first time.

The winners of this year's award will be announced on June 10. The organizer of the competition SVI hopes that the award ceremony can again be held physically.

Corpmedia documents major order from Jungheinrich

Corpmedia, a Zurich-based agency specializing in storytelling, film, and animation, produced a documentary film for intralogistics solutions provider Jungheinrich about its latest major project for Arthur Weber.

Logistics systems provider Jungheinrich has redesigned and built the entire central warehouse for Arthur Weber in Seewen SZ. Arthur Weber is a supplier of construction-related product systems, tools and hardware. Corpmedia had the task of documenting the complex job on film. The result was a film with great attention to detail. For example, the film was shot with vintage anamorphic lenses, which create a cinematic effect.

Jungheinrich's head of marketing Lars Minder is enthusiastic about both the collaboration and the result: "Corpmedia has managed to fill a factual topic with emotion, and we are more than satisfied with the result."

Wunderman Thompson digitizes tenant communications

Working with Apleona Real Estate, the Zurich-based agency Wunderman Thompson has driven the digital transformation of the real estate industry.

Apleona Real Estate is a real estate service company with ten locations throughout Switzerland that manages around 86,000 rental properties ranging from residential and commercial premises to retail and center space. With the newly created tenant portal, Apleona Real Estate is digitizing communication with tenants and aims to create more transparency. For this purpose, Wunderman Thompson has developed the portal Leona.ch and the robot "Leona", which accompanies users online. In addition, further expansion steps were initiated for the owner user group.

Tenants' needs at the center

No matter whether the key has been lost, the heating is defective or the current service charge statement is needed: On the user-friendly portal, tenants can find all the information about their rental properties at a glance. To use the service, a one-time registration with personal details is required. To ensure optimum communication with tenants, tenant inquiry forms have been designed to meet their needs instead of standard forms. To ensure that tenants are always kept up to date during the processing process, the requests were given a processing status and integrated into a digital mailbox. Users can also manage their personal data themselves and find helpful tips and useful information about their rental property.

Property technology integrated

Behind the contemporary UX interface is intelligently linked technology. The technical challenge was the API integration of OnBase - the enterprise content management system - for all tenant documents. Via this interface, the portal obtains important data such as documents, invoices or attachments and displays them in a user-friendly manner. Likewise, all tenant requests are recorded as pending in OnBase. Depending on the scope, the inquiries run through a simple or complex workflow in the background and are handled in a structured and reliable manner. The portal is based on a content management system so that content such as news and FAQs can be managed. In addition to the portal, an identity server was set up to manage tenant access. The platform is mobile-optimized and was rolled out throughout Switzerland at the end of 2020.

Responsible at Apleona Real Estate: Stefan Studer (Head of IT), Sabrina Hauser (COO), Louisa Bordewieck (Content Marketing Manager), Nathalie Renfer (IT Project Manager), Hans Peter Egloff (CEO, overall responsibility). Responsible at Wunderman Thompson: Susi Martin (Senior Account Director), Mirco Portmann (Account Director), Rigobert Mihle (Principal Software Engineer), David Suppiger (Senior Software Engineer), Jean-Baptiste Bernus (Senior Software Engineer), Elias Daccarett (Principal Platform Engineer), Diego Martinez (Senior UX Director).

Campfire raises awareness for climate justice with quiz

Campfire has created a quiz for Brot für alle and Fastenopfer that shows how our own actions affect the well-being of people in the Global South.

"The whole world is affected by climate change. But of all people, the poorer sections of the population in the global South, who contribute least to this consumption-related problem, are already suffering the most from the sometimes life-threatening consequences," explains the Biel-based agency Campfire in its communication on the climate quiz launch. Bread for All and Fastenopfer want to draw attention to this injustice with their ecumenical campaign "Climate Justice - Now!" this year. They are calling on Swiss people to take action with flanking measures - and commissioned Campfire to design and implement a landing page to raise awareness among the younger public.

The agency focused on interactivity and developed a low-threshold climate quiz designed to make users directly aware of the connection between their actions and the consequences in the global South.

At climatejustice-now.ch users become protagonists and immerse themselves in everyday scenarios that take them around the world. By means of questions about their own habits and direct answers from people from Brazil, Indonesia and other affected countries, they are shown what influence their actions in the here and now have on the well-being of people in poorer countries. With authentic video messages from the South, the connection to reality is established and the seriousness of the topic becomes tangible.

The individual responses and recommended actions collected during the trip motivate visitors to think about behavioral alternatives and enable them to become active advocates for climate justice.

Video messages like this one from the Philippines were integrated into the quiz.

Bots learn from bots: Already the 600th patent for Avaya

Avaya, a global player in the field of unified messaging, has been granted its 600th contact center patent for its AI-based chatbot innovation from the cloud.

With virtual chat agents, the global company Avaya is driving forward the use of artificial intelligence for contact centers. Their chatbot socialization technology uses AI to "train" virtual agents that interact with customers via voice, text and chat channels. The virtual agents are programmed to quickly access relevant information and collaborate with other interactive agents during customer communication. In this way, the knowledge base of the virtual agents is continuously expanded, which contributes to the effectiveness of the AI systems and tools in the contact center.

For the underlying technology, Avaya has now received its 600th patent for contact center technologies in the Avaya OneCloud CCaaS portfolio from the US Patent and Trademark Office. Avaya now has over 4,400 patents across the entire range of solutions.

Ourania Odermatt, Managing Director Avaya Switzerland and Austria

Ourania Odermatt, Managing Director Avaya Switzerland and Austria, says: "Communication and collaboration are important foundations for business success. Avaya is communication. With 600 patents in the contact center environment and a total of 4,400 patents in the CCaaS, UCaaS and CPaaS portfolios, Avaya demonstrates its focus on future-oriented communication".

"Leader" for intelligent contact centers

Avaya was named a "Leader" in the report "The Aragon Research Globe for Intelligent Contact Center 2020". The report particularly highlights Avaya's extensive in-house developed AI capabilities, as well as its partnerships - including the integration of Google Contact Center AI - to improve the customer experience and anticipate customer needs.

Streaming services on the upswing at Corona: Usage up sharply

Thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, YouTube, Netflix, and Spotify have further expanded their lead. Newer services such as Disney+ and TikTok are also gaining significant traction. This is shown by a survey conducted by the independent online comparison service moneyland.ch on the use of video and music streaming services in Switzerland.

The use of streaming services has increased again in Switzerland - even among the dominant providers Netflix and Spotify. Meanwhile, 89 percent of the population uses at least one of the 22 streaming services surveyed. "Due to a lack of leisure alternatives, streaming videos and music has become even more popular during the Corona crisis," says Rolf Beyeler, the telecom expert at moneyland.ch.

Since January 2020, the giants YouTube have grown strongly by 10 percentage points from 65% to 75% and Netflix by 9 percentage points from 45% to 54%. Amazon Prime Video also grew from 7% to 10% and Sky Sport from 4% to 6%. Among music streaming services, Spotify grew from 35% to 44%, Soundcloud from 8% to 11%, Apple Music from 15% to 16%, and Deezer from 5% to 6%.

75% of the Swiss population now use YouTube. Compared to the 2020 survey, this is a significant increase of 10 percentage points. The vast majority use Youtube as a free version - only 4% of the population use the paid version. Young people use Youtube significantly more often than older people: 94% of the 19- to 25-year-old respondents watch Youtube videos. Among 50- to 74-year-olds, the figure is 61%.

Netflix dominates among pay services

Netflix has grown significantly in Switzerland in recent years. At 54%, more than half are now using Netflix. A year ago, the figure was 45% and in April 2018, 20%. Meanwhile, 39% of the population use Netflix in a paid version. This is by far the highest figure for paid streaming services in Switzerland. 15% of respondents said they use Netflix for free - 12% for free via friends. Young people watch series and movies on Netflix significantly more often than the older population. 83% of 18- to 25-year-olds use Netflix, 62% of 25- to 49-year-olds and 33% of 50- to 74-year-olds.

Newcomer Disney+ already ahead of Amazon Prime Video

The Disney+ streaming service was launched in Switzerland around a year ago. In January 2021 - around ten months after the launch - 13% now say in the Moneyland survey that they use Disney+. This makes Disney+ the second largest classic video streaming service after Netflix. Disney+ has thus also overtaken Amazon Prime Video (10%).

Tiktok strongly on the rise

Another newcomer is Tiktok. The app combines short videos with social media. Tiktok has quickly established itself as a popular leisure app, especially among young people. In the survey, Tiktok is also the most popular among the youngest age group surveyed, between 18 and 25. Already 35% of respondents in this age group say they use Tiktok. That is the third-best figure in this age group after YouTube (94 %) and Netflix (83%). Across all age groups, 13.3% of respondents say they use Tiktok.

Youtube also for listening to music

62% of respondents say they listen to music via YouTube. Although most respondents do not use the paid service YouTube Music, they also use the classic YouTube service to listen to music. There are also clear differences between the various age groups when it comes to listening to music via YouTube: Among young 18- to 25-year-olds, 79% listen to music via YouTube, among 26- to 49-year-olds the figure is 68% and among 50- to 74-year-olds it is still 49%.

Spotify is the most popular music streaming payment service

Spotify has also grown significantly in Switzerland in recent years. 44% said in this year's survey that they use Spotify. A year ago, the figure was 35%, and three years ago 20%. Spotify is especially popular among young people: 78% of 18- to 25-year-olds listen to Spotify. Among 26- to 49-year-olds, the figure is 52%, and among 50- to 74-year-olds, only 22%. 89% of respondents say they use at least one streaming service. Among young respondents aged 18 to 25, all respondents use at least one streaming service. However, 96% of 26- to 49-year-old respondents and 77% of 50- to 74-year-old respondents also use at least one music or video streaming service.

Moneyland.ch conducted the survey in January 2021 together with the market research institute among 1500 people and compared it with the survey results of 2018 and 2020.

Mona and Mateo opens the after lockdown season with Modissa

With the end of the store lockdown, the new season begins. Modissa and the Basel-based agency Mona and Mateo are celebrating the reopening with a campaign that celebrates the joy of change.

After Mona and Mateo were selected as the lead agency for Modissa following an evaluation, the agency developed the "Infinitely new" campaign together with Kaushaus. The activating social media campaign is intended to show Modissa from its most diverse and exciting side - staged again and again over several weeks. "infinitely new" is also intended to generate conversation and customers on site, as a newsletter and by mailing. The campaign has been running since Monday.

Ammarkt brings more inspiration to the catalog for Livique

For Coop’s subsidiary Livique, Ammarkt is redefining the purpose of the home furnishings catalog. Previously a categorized overview of the entire product range, it now offers more ideas and inspiration. The goal is to inspire people with large-scale home decor examples and entertain them in an appealing setting.

The further development of the imagery is intended to provide an emotional underpinning for the claim "Live as you live". With the layout, Livique shows customers the many possibilities for individual furnishing in an inspiring and refreshing way, instead of just listing the latest home trends. One of Livique's particular strengths is its huge selection of customizable furniture. Accordingly, a great deal of attention was paid to the creative staging of the many possibilities for personalization.

The catalog is therefore intended to be the first source of inspiration. The store visit, on the other hand, serves to clarify questions or for advice, and many purchases are completed online. "That's why the catalog remains a significant touchpoint for us in the purchase decision process," explains Antonis Lambrinoudakis, Marketing and Purchasing Manager at Livique. "With inspiring insights into our product range, it gives our readership a holistic sense of what they can expect at Livique."

Responsible at Livique: Oliver Roth (CEO/Head of Division Livique), Antonis Lambrinoudakis (Head of Marketing and Procurement), Fatima Gmati (Head of Advertising).
