SFLB heralds new round for Migros magazine

Spillmann/Felser/Leo Burnett has added three more subjects to the Migros magazine reader campaign and is putting the media planners in the sand. Because anyone who ignores Migros magazine is behaving like Vogel Strauss, says the Zurich agency.

Spillmann/Felser/Leo Burnett has added three new subjects to the Migros magazine reader campaign. Everyday reading situations are also reinterpreted in the second wave. The aim is to show that Migros has more exciting and entertaining things to read in its magazine than the instructions on the packaging of breakfast cereals or dog food.
Round number two is also the name of the game for the advertising campaign. Where previously guide dogs and canes for the blind stood in front of media agencies, now the media planners themselves are at the center of attention - or rather: they are stuck in the sand. If they are still ignoring 2.9 million readers instead of placing their advertising in the Migros magazine, their heads are stuck in the sand like an ostrich, the Zurich agency announced. Both campaigns can now be seen in selected print media.

Less profit for Hamburg publishing house Gruner + Jahr

Difficult market conditions and overcapacity in the gravure printing market had a negative impact on the results of the major Hamburg publishing house Gruner + Jahr last year. In its core business of magazines and online offerings, the publisher continued its growth trajectory of recent years.

Difficult market conditions and overcapacity in the gravure printing market impacted the results of the major Hamburg-based publishing house Gruner + Jahr (G+J), which belongs to Bertelsmann, last year. The gravure printing group Prinovis, in which G+J holds a stake, fell short of the previous year in terms of sales and operating profit, the publisher announced on Thursday, according to SDA. The operating profit fell by 13 million euros to 264 million. Turnover fell to 2.83 (previous year: 2.86) billion euros. The return on sales thus amounted to 9.3 (9.7) percent.G+J continued the growth course of recent years in its core business with magazines and online offerings. International activities proved to be particularly successful, almost doubling earnings.
The yield improved to 9.9 (9.0) percent in 2007. G+J believes it is financially prepared for further growth. Sales and earnings are expected to increase despite further restructuring costs at Prinovis.
G+J is Europe's largest magazine publisher (Stern, Geo, Eltern, Brigitte, Essen & Trinken) and manages more than 500 magazines and digital offerings in 30 countries with 14,400 titles.

Last but not least: Kleber lets the mirror sit again

«I’m happy to accept this offer from *Der Spiegel*.» With this testimonial, ZDF anchor Claus Kleber is promoting the magazine’s new knowledge portal. That’s quite self-deprecating coming from a man who was once publicly considered a contender for the top job at the news powerhouse.

"I gladly accept this offer from Der Spiegel". ZDF presenter Claus Kleber uses this testimonial to promote the magazine's new knowledge portal. Quite self-deprecating from the man who was once publicly considered for the top job at the news heavyweight. You might think so. But wait: the exercise has to be aborted because ZDF has officially refused to give its approval for the advertising appearance. According to the FAZ and Süddeutsche Zeitung, the story goes like this: Der Spiegel approached Kleber with his idea. He thought it was quite funny, but wanted to get permission from his employer, who is allowed to dictate to his employees whether and where they advertise. The second waved it off, but Kleber subsequently "neglected" to inform the Hamburg news magazine. However, Der Spiegel had already gone into action and had the ad printed. Kleber then demanded that the advertisement be stopped immediately and that a "considerable sum" be donated to the Rory Peck Foundation as an apology.
So everyone benefits: various media outlets report on the blunder and thus elevate the advertisement to the editorial section. Claus Kleber can once again bask in the glow of his former request for the top job. And a good cause receives a donation. A win-win situation as it is written in the book. Only the advertising people at Der Spiegel now have to think up a new subject very quickly.
