Swisscom gets UHD company

Swisscom is no longer the only provider broadcasting ultra-high-definition (UHD) TV. Digital Cable Group plans to be the first cable network operator to broadcast ultra-sharp images during the European Soccer Championship. Sunrise also has similar plans.

In UHD SRF Zwei will broadcast the opening match and all matches from the quarter-finals onwards. All households in the cable network area of Digital Cable Group would be able to enjoy UHD, Quickline announced on Tuesday. With a 42.6 percent share, Quickline is the largest shareholder in the Digital Cable Group cable network. The group also includes GGA Maur, SASAG Schaffhausen, Stadtantennen Baar, Technische Betriebe Suhr and WWZ Telekom Zug. Together they cover 500,000 households. "The prerequisite for receiving the super-sharp images is that the TV set is UHD-capable and connected directly to the cable socket," Quickline wrote. In contrast to the competitors Swisscom and Sunrise, there is no need for a special receiver (so-called set-top box). The broadcasts of the European Championship games are the first tests of the program providers. SRF Zwei is taking over the 4K signals of a total of eight European Championship matches from the European football association UEFA. According to earlier information, only leased infrastructures will be used for the broadcast. It will take a long time before the entire TV program is broadcast in UHD, similar to the changeover from standard TV to high-resolution HD TV, Quickline wrote.

No UHD at UPC Cablecom yet

Sunrise also plans to broadcast the eight European Championship matches in UHD, as spokesman Roger Schaller said. Tests with the new UHD receiver are currently underway. At Switzerland's largest cable network operator UPC (previously: Cablecom), football fans will have to be content with the current HD TV. "We have no concrete plans to broadcast European Championship matches in UHD," said UPC spokesman Bernard Strapp when asked by news agency SDA. As soon as there is enough content and the corresponding demand, UPC will also broadcast ultra-high definition TV.

Much sharper images

4K, also called UHD (Ultra High Definition), is the successor technology to Full HD. Instead of a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, the latest TV generation conjures up 3840 x 2160 points or 4096 x 2160 points on the screen. The sharpness of detail is doubled, and the pictures look even more real. Corresponding TVs that can resolve such sharp images have been on the market for years. Until now, however, TV broadcasters have failed to offer them. This should now change. Even though regular operation in 4K has not yet been officially defined at SRG, the trial balloon at the 2016 European Championship is strongly reminiscent of the launch of the HD Suisse channel in the run-up to the 2008 European Football Championship in Switzerland and Austria. Broadcasting the games in HD quality resulted in a push for the new technology. And for SRG, the new channel served as preparation for the switchover of all programs to the new technical standard in 2012. (SDA)

Advertising print April: transport and finance increase

As in previous years, the strong advertising month of March was followed by a decline in April in 2016. While sectors such as public transportation, finance, and energy increased their advertising spending, the cosmetics and tobacco industries saw a significant decline.

Following the strong advertising month of March, April saw a decline in gross advertising pressure. Total gross advertising pressure amounted to 433 million Swiss francs. Compared to the same month last year, this corresponds to an increase of 3.1%. In April, the transportation (+38.2%), energy (+27.5%) and beverages (+25.9%) sectors generated the most advertising pressure. The insurance product group increased its advertising pressure by 50%. The biggest decline was recorded by the cosmetics & personal care sector (-31.5%). These are the findings of the Advertising Market Trend Report April 2016 by Mediafocus.

Structured like a saga, the campaign shows a series of amusing subjects. Pieces of cheese are staged in such a way that they represent a personal reference to the consumer, a holiday, a season or even a current social issue. The campaign thus symbolizes that Le Gruyère AOP suits everyone: every taste and every age. It can be seen online, on posters, in the press and at various brand sponsorship events. The new TV commercial will also be launched in the fall. The slogan - The taste of Switzerland since 1115 - recalls the strong identity of Le Gruyère AOP and underlines the authenticity and persistence of this noble product over the centuries and generations.

Advertising shoot causes panic in Cannes

A group of masked men in military uniforms briefly caused panic among guests at a luxury hotel near Cannes—until the supposed attack turned out to be an unauthorized shoot for a commercial.

According to witnesses, the men dressed like jihadists from the Islamic State (IS) terrorist militia approached the legendary Hotel du Cap - Eden-Roc in Antibes in a speedboat and attempted to dock there, according to consistent sources on Saturday. The inflatable boat was also reportedly carrying a black flag similar to that of the IS. The false attack also occurred on the first Friday the 13th since the November attacks in Paris, in which 130 people were also killed on a Friday the 13th. The US publicist J.R. Saget, who was sitting on the terrace of the Eden-Roc with Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter during the incident, reported that the guests were shocked. "Someone screamed and people jumped up and ran quickly towards the swimming pool. It was pretty scary," Saget told the "Hollywood Reporter".

Expensive twist

The French internet company Oraxy, which had organized the dubious spectacle, could not initially be reached for comment. A police spokesman told the AFP news agency that the men had previously tried to break through a security barrier at sea. They then tried to dock at the hotel. Gendarmes had confiscated the boat. A representative of the judiciary told AFP that the unauthorized shooting threatened to cost those responsible "very dearly". It is not only a matter of violating maritime law, but also of inflicting "psychological trauma". Investigators are also currently clarifying who the owner of the boat is and who rented it out. The film festival in nearby Cannes is currently taking place under the strictest security precautions. The famous Eden-Roc is always home to stars of the industry. The traditional Aids gala of a US aid organization, one of the most glamorous party events around the festival, will also take place there on Thursday. (SDA)

KSP launches Gartengold: «Apple Juice with a Mission.»

Gartengold is more than just a client of KSP. The agency has invested in the startup, is helping it succeed following its relaunch, and has won the iF Public Value Award for its efforts.

Gartengold is a business idea that defies categorization. That’s because it combines two previously overlooked resources into a delightful and 100 percent sustainable product.

KSP_GARTENGOLD_1

Jogging can be very inspiring. For example, when you notice rare heirloom apple varieties along your running route—falling unharvested from trees in private gardens. From that moment on, the founders of Gartengold began their journey from vision to mission: Could these neglected raw materials be put to use? Could we empower previously marginalized people to do so and thereby put forgotten fruit trees back to use? Could we create category-breaking products from these two untapped resources?

These questions have since led to more than 70 tree donors, around 400 donated trees, over 30 jobs for people with disabilities, more than 50,000 bottles of apple juice, many loyal customers, and a small, sustainable business.

KSP_GARTENGOLD_3-Kopie

Gartengold is social entrepreneurship in its purest form and prioritizes maximizing benefit over maximizing profit. Together with partners, tree donors, harvest workers, and customers, new opportunities arise with every apple picked and every sip of apple juice—all while creating long-term value. Social through the reintegration of people who have previously been overlooked. Societal through the prevention of waste. Ecological through resource recovery and the preservation of associated habitats. Thanks to the redesign, Garden Gold Having become a company with a mission, it can use this to give further momentum to its category-breaking products and launch new missions.

Thanks to KSP’s new strategy and the associated rebranding, a good apple juice is now becoming «Juice with a Mission.» The redesign not only reflects this but also makes it visible: Gartengold thrives on the synergies of two resources. Building on this concept, the new logo combines two typefaces into something entirely new that bears fruit. And the first great success for the rebranding and redesign is the Winner of the newly established iF Public Value Award. The renowned International Forum Design (iF) aims to highlight projects that offer solutions to the pressing issues of our time and help society move forward.

Somedia increases sales and profit

Somedia increased sales to CHF 133 million or by three percent in 2015. Profit rose from CHF 3.2 million to CHF 4.5 million.

The experience with the media house, which has now been in operation for more than a year, is good, according to the statement. The workflows have settled in very well and the employees are satisfied with the new workplaces, writes the Chur-based media house, which also includes Werbewoche. The cross-media orientation of the editorial offices with the Südostschweiz media family is constantly being optimized. In the area of advertising sales and media services, too, new cross-media projects and products are being realized or are being implemented in the new media house.

A significant reduction in costs is attributable, among other things, to marked savings in production costs. The number of employees decreased by 22 from 891 to 869.

In the core business (subscriptions, advertising, print sales), revenues were down. Somedia therefore launched projects in the digital area, which generated new revenues. Of Somedia's ten companies, the printing company posted a negative annual result. According to the statement, this is also due to the unfavorable currency situation since January 2015. As already announced, Somedia Production will take over print production and finishing at Comprinta in Schwerzenbach at the beginning of next year (Werbewoche.ch reported). This should significantly improve the cost situation. Somedia has acquired a stake in Comprinta for this purpose and will take a seat on the Board of Directors.

Last but not least: Lonely drop

TBWA Dubai shows that one drop of Pril is enough to do all the washing up with a promo campaign worth seeing.

Washing-up liquid is like so many other things in our lives (e.g. shampoo): We use far more than we need, which is not only bad for the environment, but also for our wallets (and depending on the product, also for our health). TBWA in the United Arab Emirates is now showing that one drop really is enough with a campaign that is somewhat obvious - in a positive sense: fingernail-sized mini Pril bottles with the capacity of one drop. These are distributed in supermarkets during promotional campaigns. And they are sure to be well received, as miniature editions are always popular. (hae)

Inter-Punkt: New CD for the Cantonal Hospital Aarau

The web and advertising agency Inter-Punkt developed the new corporate design (CD) for the Aarau Cantonal Hospital (KSA): The new look is modern, consistent, and well-thought-out.

In close cooperation with those responsible, Inter-Punkt developed the new corporate design for the Aarau Cantonal Hospital. The claim "The hospital with head, hand and heart" remained as the starting point in order not to lose the brand's recognition value. Based on the claim, the existing logo was modernized and the symbolism was worked out more clearly. Special mention should be made of the icon world that was developed as part of the new appearance. This is seamlessly aligned with the new logo in terms of theme and style and is used in all design elements. The image concept is also based on the claim with the theme "People". Real employees and heads of the KSA are depicted in real situations.

ksa-2-einreichung

Based on the adapted logo, all measures - from printed matter (letters, business cards, brochures, advertisements, etc.) to lettering (inside, outside and on vehicles) to digital communication channels (newsletter, social media, website content) - were redesigned. Thanks to a unified concept and the associated harmonization of visual language, fonts and the colors used, an all-round coherent and uniform appearance for the hospital was created.

Finally, all defined measures were recorded in a CD manual and handed over to the customer.
