Snapchat is almost as popular as Facebook among younger users
The messaging service Snapchat is increasingly gaining ground on Facebook among younger users in the U.S. Facebook remains the most popular online platform in the U.S., according to a report released Thursday by the Washington-based Pew Research Center. According to the report, 68 percent of all U.S. citizens use the world’s largest online network.

Among 18- to 24-year-olds, however, Snapchat has almost caught up with the market leader: 78 percent of U.S. citizens in this age group use the service, according to the study, with Facebook coming in at 80 percent. Facebook's online picture service Instagram is used by 71 percent of U.S. citizens between the ages of 18 and 24, according to the data.
According to the Pew Institute, Twitter is far behind the leading online platforms. Only 24 percent of all Internet users in the USA can warm to the short message service. (SDA)
