Now Simon Ammann also has his own Woodvetia statue
The campaign for more Swiss wood, #Woodvetia, publishes another wooden sculpture. It is dedicated to the Toggenburg ski jumping legend Simon Ammann.

#Woodvetia, the joint campaign of the Federal Office for the Environment and the Swiss forestry and timber industry, aims to get the population excited about the sustainable raw material Swiss wood. The reason for the campaign created by Rod Kommunikation is the declining demand for Swiss wood. This is having a negative impact on the forest and the local timber industry.
The core of #Woodvetia form lifelike and life-size statues of well-known personalities of Swiss history and present, which the Zurich artist Inigo Gheyselinck carves from Swiss wood. The wood he uses is always sourced from the regions from which the depicted personalities originate.
Simon Ammann at Zurich Airport
On Tuesday, May 30, 2017, Christoph Starck, Director of Lignum Switzerland, and Sonja Zöchling Stucki, Head of Corporate Communications at Zurich Airport, presented the tenth #Woodvetia statue in Kloten. The statue depicts Simon Ammann, the legendary ski jumper and multiple Olympic gold medal winner. His wooden figure, made from a spruce tree from Toggenburg, was unveiled by the athlete himself on the Visitors' Terrace B at Zurich Airport. The location at the airport is a small reference to the licensed private pilot Simon Ammann and to the battle cry of his fans that has become famous: "Fly, Simi, fly!"
In August 2017, the #Woodvetia statue will be transferred to the Chäserrugg in Toggenburg. "The fact that my sculpture stands on the visitors' terrace of Zurich Airport brings back fond memories for me. This is where the fans warmly welcomed me after I won my first two Olympic gold medals. A moment I will never forget," said Simon Ammann at the unveiling of his statue.
