KS/CS Kommunikation: New data protection law threatens Swiss SMEs
The Federal Council wants to take account of the digital transformation with a revised data protection law. However, the rules in the current preliminary draft weaken the local economy, the umbrella organization for commercial communications is convinced.

The preliminary draft of the new data protection law promises a comprehensive revision of the current law. KS/CS Kommunikation Schweiz has now taken a stand and vehemently rejects the planned changes. At the start of the year, the Federal Council had indeed formulated the goal of wanting to use the digital transformation for the Swiss economy. But the draft of the new data protection law would have exactly the opposite effect, the umbrella organization for commercial communications is convinced. If the law goes through in its current form, it will threaten the existence of small and medium-sized companies, it says in a statement. In particular, tightening up on EU requirements, which are referred to as the Swiss Finish, would put the Swiss economy at a serious disadvantage as a business location.
KS/CS Kommunikation Schweiz is therefore in favor of revising the Data Protection Act only to the extent that international requirements make it mandatory. Above all, the umbrella organization strictly rejects the planned adjustments in the areas of profiling and the sanctions system. The association justifies its demand by saying that it is vital for companies to be able to communicate effectively with customers, suppliers and partners. And this includes the exchange of personal data.
KS/CS Kommunikation Schweiz represents the interests of advertising clients, contractors, media companies and advertising agencies and thus, according to its own information, represents 22,000 employees in this country. On a political level, KS/CS strives for liberal legislation. (aks)
