Open Government Data Portal renewed
The new Swiss portal for Open Government Data (OGD) went live today. It was designed and implemented by Liip as part of a project that spanned several months.
The previous pilot portal Opendata.admin.ch, which was also created by Liip, will be replaced by the new portal Opendata.swiss replaced. It is hosted by Begasoft and thus complies with federal guidelines, according to a statement on Tuesday.
On the portal operated by the Federal Archives, the Confederation, cantons, municipalities and other organizations offer their freely available data centrally. It is a measure of the Open Government Data Strategy Switzerland 2014-2018.
The most important changes
In contrast to the pilot portal Opendata.admin.ch, which had been in operation since 2013, Swiss authorities and administration-related organizations publish their data on the new portal under uniform terms of use, the statement continues. This should make it easier for interested parties to reuse the data. Based on the experience gained from the pilot operation, the data catalog and the search function have also been improved.
Additional data providers are also present on the new portal (including the SBB, the Canton of Geneva and the Library at Guisanplatz). In total, 17 organizations now offer more than 500 data sets on the portal from a wide variety of subject areas, such as health, transport or the environment. The organizations that already had data on Opendata.admin.ch are also on Opendata.swiss represented. The data offering is now to be expanded on an ongoing basis.
