Publishing houses as refugee camps
In an interview with *Schweiz am Sonntag*, SVP President Tony Brunner criticizes the reporting by Ringier and SRF and calls on the media companies to take in refugees themselves.
"Certain media companies" are currently conducting "a veritable campaign against the SVP", said Brunner. "Led by Ringier", attempts are being made to campaign against the party with images, emotionalization and "borderline reporting". As an example, Brunner cites the image of the dead Syrian boy in Turkey - Blick asked the question "Does this image stop the SVP?". It is now known that the family had been living in Turkey for a long time and the father wanted to go to Europe "to have his teeth done". Brunner attributes the fact that public perception has changed in favor of the refugees to the fact that Ringier and SRF "supply" people with the suffering and images of refugees on a daily basis - and questions whether this is still differentiated reporting: "It's more like propaganda. If Ringier and SRF are serious, they should set up refugee camps in their publishing houses."
When asked by the interviewer, Brunner confirmed that he meant this demand seriously. Millions of people would be made to believe with pictures that they would be granted asylum in Europe. Only the wealthy would come, the others would "sit in the mud". Brunner advocates investing in water supplies, food and accommodation on the outskirts of crisis hotspots. (hae/SaS)
