Last but not least: GIF, GIF and always GIF

Booking.com turns vacation photos into funny GIFs. Simple, but effective. Wieden+Kennedy Amsterdam is behind the campaign.

Animated GIFs always work. The world is not getting tired of GIFs. The format has been around since the early hours of the internet and seems to be more popular than ever today. In May - after what felt like 100 years - Facebook also gave in to the pressure and made the simple animation loops possible in its users' timelines. Currently, they are finally being made available to Facebook pages of companies - in a test and step-by-step process. The "Tumblr generation", whose daily bread has been animated GIFs for years, can probably only smile wearily at these "achievements".

Advertising has long since taken the moving image format to its heart. On the one hand, branded GIFs have been specifically channeled into social channels for years (for example on Marketingland.com), but also created entire campaigns based on GIFs. As early as 2011 JWT Paris for Nestlé Polo (Casemovie). Ogilvy Paris last year for Netflix (Casemovie). Or also in this country: Serranetga in spring 2015 with the interactive, GIF-based music video for Samsung. Now also Booking.com. The agency Wieden+Kennedy had a simple but appealing idea for the booking platform: "Send us your photos and our GIF artists will create funny GIFs from them." All you have to do is post a photo on Twitter with the hashtag #WingItYeah to meet. With a bit of luck, you will find your own snapshot "remixed" on URL and the Campaign page from Booking.com again. The campaign is still running, try your luck. (hae)
