Spiked: Clever and smart...
… analog or digital? In the future, anyone who wants to go to college will have to make a choice—not only about their major and the type of degree they want to earn, but also about the right timepiece.
It's best to choose an analog watch from yesteryear. Because smartwatches will be banned in the ivory tower in the future.
But from the beginning: In the past, extensive knowledge, good nerves and a carefully wound wristwatch were the most important pieces of equipment for an exam. Today, it's the nimble finger: Because smartwatches allow quick and unobtrusive access to Google and Wikipedia, they are the perfect cheat sheets. One doggone glance at the watch - and the test result is in. A "Hello there, please don't look at your watch!" from the exam invigilator apparently didn't seem appropriate to the rector of City University London. That is why it is now already forbidden at this London university to wear a wristwatch to the exam. Other universities have followed suit. The only question is: Why go to university at all if the knowledge that is taught, learned and tested there is only on a par with Google and Wikipedia? We'll make an inquiry in London. afh
