Valencia: A dirtbag makes clean
The Basel agency Valencia Kommunikation has chosen an unconventional approach to tackling littering with its "Drecksack" campaign.
This summer, "littering," the careless abandonment of spontaneously generated waste, will once again be a problem in all Swiss cities. In Basel, the authorities and the business community have therefore launched a joint campaign. Valencia Kommunikation won the budget for this campaign with its "Drecksack" concept in a pitch. During the summer, a free plastic garbage bag - the Drecksack - is handed out at participating stores around littering hotspots when take-away purchases are made. The Drecksack is not only practical for anyone who finds disposing of sticky or greasy packaging too tedious, with its catchy name and green signal color it also draws attention to the littering problem.

But with the dirt bag, correct action is also rewarded. As an additional incentive, it is printed with a winning number. Anyone who registers on the mobile Dirtbag website and enters this number will, with a bit of luck, receive an electronic voucher for an instant prize offered by the promotion partners.

In addition, more dirtbags will be drawn from the containers every week, and their "owners" will be rewarded with a weekly prize. At the end of the campaign, an additional grand prize - a party on a Rhine ferry worth 3'000 Swiss francs - will be given away among all registered participants.

The Drecksack campaign runs in Basel during the summer months and is supported by Coop, Denner, Manor, McDonald's, Migros, Valora, Sutterbegg, the canton of Basel-Stadt, the trade association and Pro Innerstadt.
