Last but not least: This is a Generic Brand Video
The video agency Dissolve perfectly parodies brand and advertising videos—and in doing so, promotes itself.
«This is a Generic Brand Video» is actually a text written by Kendra Eash, published on the Page from the American publishing house McSweeney's. The author offers a dry parody of how brands present themselves in advertising and promotional videos, using catchy imagery to visualize their corporate philosophy. «Our policies could be related to these panoramic views of Costa Rica.»
A script just waiting to be spoken and set to footage. And there you have it: the perfect PR film. That’s exactly what the film agency Dissolve thought—which, much like photo agencies, sells film clips based on any number of keywords for further use. And lo and behold: Dissolve’s video archive is so vast that for every sentence—spoken by a voice-over artist we’ve heard a hundred times before—we were able to find the perfect moving image. «Everything you hate about advertising in one fake video that’s almost too real»—better than Adweek.com Otherwise, it would not have been possible to summarize the result.
