CR Basel raises awareness surprisingly
On behalf of the Department of Health of the Canton of Basel-Stadt, the CR Basel agency is raising awareness about mental illness using a surprising technique: as the viewer’s angle changes, so does the facial expression of the people depicted in the images.
After the Basel awareness campaign for the promotion of mental health in 2011 and 2012, which attracted attention far beyond the country's borders, the Department of Health of the Canton of Basel-Stadt is once again putting this socially significant topic in the public eye this year - with a surprising novelty that makes viewers take a closer look in a clever way: Thanks to lenticular technology, the subjects, once again conceived and realized by CR Basel, use only one portrait image each to draw the changeable face of a person who at first glance appears to be laughing and - depending on the angle of view - shows a somber expression when looked at a second time.
The conclusion "Look instead of look away - mental illnesses have many faces" directly calls for a closer look at the people in one's personal environment. The aim is to strengthen the sense of mutual responsibility among the population in order to prevent mental illness. After all, social support is an important factor in reducing the risk of mental illness. Appreciation, encouragement, advice, a sympathetic ear and understanding, as well as joint activities or practical support when it comes to seeking professional help, help people cope better with stress and strain.
The eye-catching posters, which interact with passers-by, have been found throughout the city of Basel since June 2013. In addition, there are postcards with the same subjects and the most important address for further information on the topic on the page Allgutebasel.ch
