Last but not least: How, never heard of Migipedia?

Migipedia? Is this some kind of new offering from Wikipedia? Not quite. This portmanteau of “Migros” and “Wikipedia” is Migros’ latest online initiative. Is the retailer launching a new online encyclopedia?

The whole thing has little to do with an ordinary encyclopaedia, an online reference work like Wikipedia. The only thing they have in common is that the content on both websites is created by users. Migros' new platform is certainly not altruistic. In future, customers will be able to rate all 40,000 of the supermarket chain's products on Migipedia. The orange giant hopes this will help it develop a better feel for customer wishes, as Blick am Abend reports. It remains to be seen whether the site can establish itself as a "reliable shopping guide" or whether visitors can expect mainly product recommendations and euphoric comments from Migros fans. Migros assures us that there will be no censorship. So far, the whole thing is still in a test phase. If everything goes according to plan, the portal will be opened to all customers this year.
