IRF Communications Barometer 2012: Digital technologies take hold

IRF Communications has presented its "IRF Communications Barometer" for the first time. The barometer examined the use of communication tools in Swiss companies.

In addition to questions on positioning, crisis communication and financial reporting, IRF Communications analyzed media relations and the use of social media. The survey was conducted among corporate communications and investor relations specialists from companies listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange. The results of the 2012 IRF Communications Barometer show the growing importance of digital technologies and new media platforms alongside the use of tried and tested communication tools.

The most important findings of the study are:
- 53 percent rate media work as central to company positioning
- 68 percent have crisis concepts
- 47 percent expand online presentation
- 82 percent follow media coverage
- 15 percent conduct public affairs studies
- 44 percent and 50 percent already use Facebook and Twitter respectively

The survey, which was conducted for the first time in fall 2012, will be repeated in the coming years, as IRF Communcations writes in a press release on Wednesday. The aim is to identify new communication trends at an early stage.

The study results can be found in the current journal of IRF Communications published.
