Job cuts also at Swiss Post headquarters

Swiss Post CEO Jürg Bucher has announced new cost-cutting measures. Following the announcement of 250 job cuts at Post Logistics, cost-cutting measures are now also necessary at Swiss Post headquarters.

This year, 30 million francs would have to be saved. This is what Swiss Post CEO Jürg Bucher told the newspaper Der Sonntag. Next year, Bucher wants to save another 50 million francs in administration. This will affect functions such as finance, human resources, legal and communications, Bucher told the newspaper. "Swiss Post must keep costs under control if it wants to be successful in the next few years," he said, adding, "It won't be possible without job cuts." Still, the job cuts should be doable without layoffs, however, because the program is being stretched out over a longer period of time and there is some staff turnover, he said.

In addition, the conversion of loss-making post offices into postal agencies will continue. Bucher justified his cost-cutting program, among other things, with the decline in letter mail. The decline in addressed letter mail was 2.5 percent.
