Online newspaper planned for Central Switzerland
A new online newspaper is set to launch in Central Switzerland. The goal is to provide quality journalism on local and regional topics. The launch date has not yet been set.
M.M.V (Meinungen.Medien.Vielfalt ) is behind the project. Chairman of the board Nick Mijnssen confirmed a corresponding report of the NZZ am Sonntag on Tuesday, according to SDA. The project arose from dissatisfaction with the dominant newspaper in Central Switzerland, the Neue Luzerner Zeitung.
He is currently looking for staff for the online newspaper. Mijnssen envisions a politically independent editorial team with three to four editors. The start date is still open. Mijnssen would prefer to start this year, but the quality of the product is more important than a quick start. The newspaper is to be published from the end of October as an online newspaper on the one hand and as a printed weekly newspaper on the other. Mijnssen does not want to rule out a collaboration with the Tageswoche project in Basel, but it remains to be seen whether there is any interest there.
Nick Mijnssen, heir to the Zug-based industrial group Landis + Gyr, wants to finance the Central Switzerland project in the initial phase. However, a role as a patron like that of Roche heiress Beatrice Oeri at Tageswoche is not envisaged. The board of directors of M.M.V. is the trustee Beat Bachmann. His brother, media consultant Ivo Bachmann, is chairman of the board of Neue Medien Basel, which publishes the Tageswoche.
