Eight Swiss in the race for the first-ever "AppArtAward
The Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe ZKM is looking for digital art for your pocket: 93 participants from 14 countries applied for the "AppArtAward" with artistic software applications for smartphones and tablet PCs. Eight Swiss are also in the running.
This competition is the world's first "AppArtAwards". This was announced by the ZKM on Monday. The competition was aimed at software programmers, artists and app fans in general with creative ideas.
The youngest Swiss participant, for example, seventeen-year-old Michael Wong from Rudolfstetten AG, developed an app called "School Helper". It enables pupils and teachers to better structure their school day by allowing them to create timetables and grade overviews, exam dates and notes, for example. A well-known artist from French-speaking Switzerland also took part in the competition: Hervé Graumann.
The other Swiss candidates are Ted Davis from Basel, Patrick Keller from Lausanne, Patrick Juchli from Berlin, Benjamin Sommerhalder and Ramakrishnan Chandrasekhar from Zurich and Beat Suter from Wettingen.
On July 8, prizes will be awarded in three categories: the technical innovation prize, the artistic innovation prize (10,000 euros each) and a young talent prize for participants under the age of 18, endowed with 5,000 euros. The individual applications will be judged according to interactivity and creativity, design, usability, technical complexity and overall artistic impression.
