Civis: Media prize for SRF documentary film and Lucerne animated film

At this year’s Civis Media Awards ceremony in Berlin, two Swiss entries were honored. Karin Bauer received the European Civis Television Award in the Information category for her SRF documentary film «Der Asylchef und die Nigerianer.» The prize in the Entertainment category went to screenwriter Richard Cottan for «Kommissar Wallander – Murderer Without a Face» (ARD/BBC).

For the documentary "Der Asylchef und die Nigerianer", Karin Bauer accompanied the head of the Federal Office for Migration FOM, Alard du Bois-Reymond, during his first year in office. Civis Media writes this in a press release. Lucerne students Andrea Schneider, Loretta Arnold, Fabio Friedli and Marius Portmann were also honored with the European Young Civis Media Prize for their film "Heimatland". The film is about a Swiss boy's fears of his Turkish neighbor.

Another Civis Media Prize was awarded this year to productions by the German broadcasters WDR, BR and Radio Essen. The award, worth a total of 40,000 euros, recognizes contributions that promote the "peaceful coexistence of people of different national, ethnic, religious or cultural backgrounds". According to the communiqué, 690 programs from 22 EU countries and Switzerland took part in the competition. The patrons of the media prize, which was awarded on Thursday at the Foreign Ministry in Berlin, were the German Federal President Christian Wulff and the President of the European Parliament, Jerzy Buzek.
