13th Aargau/Solothurn Media Award Presented

On Monday evening, the Aargau/Solothurn Media Prize was awarded for the 13th time. It went to newspaper journalist Sabine Kuster (Aargauer Zeitung), photographers Hansruedi Aeschbacher (Oltner Tagblatt) and Chris Iseli (Aargauer Zeitung), radio journalist Ralf Stutzki (Kanal K), and television journalists Matthias Achermann and Bähram Alagheband (Tele M1).

The expert jury, led by jury president Peter Schellenberg and the expert jury chairs Josefa Haas (print), Nicole Aeby (Photo), Vinzenz Wyss (Radio), and Toni Zwyssig (TV), selected one winner from each of the approximately 100 entries submitted; in the TV and Photo categories, two winners were chosen.

In the Print category, the winner is Sabine Kuster, a journalist for the Aargauer Zeitung, for her series «Poverty in Aargau.» Sabine Kuster also recently received the award in Bern for the same series of articles. Award for Swiss Local Journalism. 

Since no entries in the photography category met the jury’s requirements when the award was introduced last year, the expert jury, chaired by Nicole Aeby, was able to select more than one entry this year and is awarding the 2010 Media Prize to two photojournalists: Hansruedi Aeschbacher, a photographer for the Oltner Tagblatt, and the portrait «GC Talent Izet Hajrovic» by Chris Iseli, a photographer for the Aargauer Zeitung, thereby honoring two photojournalists with the 2010 Media Award.

The media award in the radio category goes to Ralf Stutzki, a journalist at Kanal K. He was honored for his piece «Du bist Radio Jubiläum.».

In the TV category, the jury selected the report by the two Tele M1 journalists, Matthias Achermann and Bähram Alagheband, for their television segment «Test: Weapons Theft at the Aarau Federal Shooting Festival.» This report had also previously won the Swiss Local Journalism Award in Bern in the TV category.

The Aargau/Solothurn Media Award is organized by media companies (press, radio, and television) based in these cantons and by the cantonal governments of Aargau and Solothurn. The aim of the award, which carries a total prize fund of 12,000 Swiss francs, is to recognize and promote journalistic excellence in regional reporting.
