Murdoch wants to sell Myspace
After cutting its workforce in half, the Murdoch-owned News Corp plans to divest itself of the social network MySpace. According to a company spokeswoman, a sale, a merger, or a spin-off are all being considered.
According to circles, a spin-off is the most likely option. In this case, private investors or venture capital companies would have to step in, which would change the ownership structure. The internet group Yahoo is considered to be interested in a takeover.
Media mogul Rupert Murdoch's group announced a day earlier that it would halve the number of MySpace employees. News Corp paid 580 million dollars a good five years ago for the pioneer of social networks, which has long since been overtaken by Facebook.
