Cultural Investor of the Year 2010: Migros Culture Percentage
Migros-Kulturprozent won the 2010 Cultural Investor of the Year award. The award, presented for the first time, was handed out on October 28, 2010, as part of the 2010 Kulturmarken Awards in Berlin.
The Kulturinvestor award is part of the Kulturmarken-Award competition. For the fourth time, this competition honors the most successful marketing strategies of cultural providers and cities, the most committed cultural mediators and the most creative forms of investment in culture in German-speaking countries. A total of 105 applicants from renowned cultural providers, cultural projects, city marketing companies and cultural investors applied for an award. The jury of eighteen experts from business, culture, science and the media selected the winners in the five categories of cultural brand, trend brand, cultural manager, city brand and, for the first time, in the newly created category of cultural investor of the year.
The idea of the Migros Culture Percentage goes back to Migros founder Gottlieb Duttweiler. In his spirit, the Federation of Migros Cooperatives and the Migros Cooperatives are committed to making an annual contribution to the Migros Culture Percentage. This is calculated on the basis of sales and is paid even if business in the retail trade declines. This guarantees the continuity of the Migros Culture Percentage and is firmly anchored in Migros' articles of association.
The main pillars of Migros Culture Percentage are activities and institutions in the areas of culture, society, education, leisure and business. They include the Migros Club School, the Eurocentres, the GDI Gottlieb Duttweiler Institute in Rüschlikon, the four parks in the countryside, the Monte Generoso Railway in Ticino and the Migros Museum of Contemporary Art in Zurich. Activities and projects in the regional and national environment are another component of the commitment. Migros Culture Percentage sees itself as a driving force and seeks cooperation with other private and public organizations. It also supports projects and individuals through grants and study awards. Since its foundation in 1957, Migros has invested over 3.3 billion Swiss francs.
