For the first time in its six-year history, the award from the Federal Department of Home Affairs (FDHA), which is endowed with CHF 15,000, has not been awarded to a young designer.
"The award honors him as a book designer, publisher and teacher who promotes Swiss design and book design," says Miriam Fischer from the Arts and Culture section at the BAK.
The winner was chosen by the same jury that judges the "Most Beautiful Swiss Books" competition, which the BAK has been organizing for over 50 years. To give the competition more weight, it was decided in 1997 to award the Jan Tschichold Prize. The jury was made up of a publisher, four designers and two experts from the technical fields.
"I'm very happy about this award. Also because it's the first one that comes with money, in addition to the many other awards I've already won," says Lars Müller.
The award ceremony will take place on May 4 as part of the vernissage of the catalog "The Most Beautiful Swiss Books" in the foyer of the Museum für Gestaltung in Zurich. Ernst Weber
