BaZ saves differently

Publishing house employees have two days to submit their own proposals.

Publishers Employees have two days to make their own suggestions Basel is "ticking differently" than the rest of Switzerland, even in difficult times, as demonstrated by the Basler Mediengruppe (BM), which at the beginning of the week announced that its flagship Basler Zeitung would be saving CHF 3.5 million a year (see page 15). This target is unalterable, says BM spokesman Walter Schäfer. However, the management has given some department heads who wanted to spontaneously look for socially acceptable solutions with their colleagues two days to do so. A decision on the proposals will be made this week. They are primarily considering reduced workloads or early retirement. According to Schäfer, this kind of solidarity is in keeping with the "Basel way". (mk)
