Junk food has a hard time
Advertising Bans To combat childhood and adolescent obesity, the EU is targeting advertising.
Advertising bans To combat obesity in children and young people, the EU is taking aim at advertising, giving the food industry one year to introduce self-regulatory measures, said EU Health Commissioner Markos Kyprianou, according to a report in the Guardian. If there are no satisfactory results after this time, the EU will take legal action to ensure that children are no longer sold unhealthy products through advertising. Part of the problem is that obesity has traditionally been seen as an American problem in Europe: "We've kind of made fun of the Americans. Now it's a European problem." Talks between the administration and the food industry are also underway in Switzerland, reported the news agency SDA. However, the Federal Office of Public Health is not currently talking about advertising bans.
