Paper At Paperworld 2005 in Frankfurt, the offerings for the office sector were more diverse than ever before.Material buyers often only pay attention to the price per thousand when buying office paper for printers and copiers, probably also because the monthly consumption of A4 sheets per employee is increasing rather than stagnating. Another decision criterion is the quality of the paper. In addition to grammage, these are differentiated by whiteness, volume and colors, as well as by their surface quality (uncoated or coated) and are either multifunctional or specifically available for inkjet, laser, offset and/or copy technologies. EcologicalBeyond price, many companies take a responsibility towards the environment, e.g. by using papers from recycled or chlorine-free bleached production.
In addition, there are the FSC papers with raw materials from sustainable forestry. The Portuguese Inapa Group, which was represented at the fair by the German wholesaler Papier Union and which owns the dealers Biber/Baumgartner in Switzerland, offers wood-free office and graphic papers according to FSC under Tecno Balance. Based on a certificate issued last October, Papier Union is the first German trading company to supply papers to consumers in accordance with the Forest Stewardship Council. The traders in Switzerland (e.g. Antalis, Sihl+Eika etc.) have been operating in the market with FSC-certified papers for much longer. But there, as there, the demand for FSC papers is still on a low flame.
IQ selection smooth and IQ Triotec premium as well as Maestro bulky and Maestro supreme from manufacturer Mondi Business Paper (formerly Neusiedler) are also FSC certified. The same applies to the natural white CopyZett W produced in Switzerland by Ziegler Papier. Under the name OffZett W (in grammages between 80 and 400 g/m2), Ziegler also has an FSC paper in its range that is ideally suited for both offset and flexo printing.
A large number of papers for special applications were also on show at Paperworld. Hahnemühle FineArt, for example, demonstrated Art Print, a paper designed for inkjet printing, live on the Epson Photostylus R 300 printer. Art Print has the structure and grace of classic painting papers.
M-real introduced the bright white Evolve Office, made without optical brighteners and entirely from recycled paper, which has been awarded the Blue Angel.
The Sihl paper mill in Zurich is expanding its transparent paper line for inkjet and laser printers. The semi-transparent papers can be enhanced, for example, by blind or hot foil stamping processes.
As a novelty, UPM presented Office presentation plus paper with a smooth surface and high whiteness. Due to its high opacity, this paper is suitable for two-sided printing.
Assortment depth Mondi Business Paper now offers Maestro office paper in 34 pastel and neon shades. The product range, which has been expanded to include Maestro supreme, covers a range depth from 60 to 280 g/m2 in A3, A4 and in half and large formats. New to the range is Color Copy style in natural color, for color laser printers and copiers, in 100, 160 and 200 g/m2 and in A4, A3 and SRA3 formats.
Data Copy, M-real's office paper that has been around for 20 years, peaks at 164 on the CIE color scale for whiteness, making it whiter than before. M-real's Logic Colours range has been extended to ten colors.
The grammages 252 and 305 g/m2 of Oki standard paper are suitable for the Oki C9300 and C9500 printers with the heavy media multi-purpose feeder (option) for materials up to approx. 0.4 mm thick.
UPM's Yes Color copy paper, designed for color laser printing, is now available in grammages of 90, 130, 160, 190 and 250 g/m2 in addition to 100 g/m2.
Paperworld also reflects lifestyle. Designers discover trends here - and those looking for business ideas will find what they are looking for. Manufacturers and retailers are present. Standard, quality and exclusive ranges have their platforms. And it's probably the only place to get a taste for office papers.
More practical packagingDue to the name change from Neusiedler to Mondi, the products were presented in the new corporate design. At the same time, the carrying comfort of the cartons for IQ selection smooth and IQ Triotec premium has been increased with the CleverGrip foam handle.
According to M-real, around 300 million paper boxes are transported in Europe's offices every year. The boxes in the Data Copy and Logic 500 ranges have now been given a padded carrying strap. This handling system is called Grab-and-Go Solution.
UPM's Yes office paper also scores plus points: when the carton is placed on the shelf and the perforated transport protection cap is removed, a display is created for removal.
The fine and specialty paper manufacturer Ziegler Papier from Grellingen presented the super-white Z-Laser Color of the standard formats A4, A3, A3+ and SRA3 (see also "Oversize") in a new transport carton consisting of a practical dispenser tray with sleeve.
