Coveted sausage

All objections from retailers were futile. To the delight of the Vaudois sausage producers, the Federal Office for Agriculture gave the green light in 2004 for the registration of Saucisson vaudois and Saucisse aux choux as a protected geographical indication. However, the registration decision alone would have had little effect in Switzerland, where six kilograms of sausage are consumed per person each year. The IGP certificate (Indication Géographique Protégée) must be communicated in order to stand out from the high density of sausages - a good 400 varieties are produced and sold in this country. The charcuterie association has therefore commissioned the Lausanne agency Angebault Portenier with an advertising campaign to make the two culinary flagships of Vaud known beyond the gourmet segment as a high-quality sausage specialty, with two cartoon spots featuring the sausage with the white and green quality label in the advertising block. Initially in French-speaking Switzerland and from next year also in German-speaking Switzerland. "The humorous approach with the flying sausage is intended to convey the festive and convivial character of the specialty and its region of origin," says CD Yves Portenier, explaining the advertising idea.
