Green City Days: Designing Rapperswil-Jona as a Sustainable City
The Zurich-based creative agency Gestalten was responsible for the entire communications campaign for Green City Days Rapperswil-Jona—and in doing so, helped position the city as a pioneer in sustainable urban development.

Bringing Green Visions to Life: Gestalten and the Green City Days
From May 7 to 10, 2026, Rapperswil-Jona was all about green urban development. For the four-day «Green City Days Rapperswil-Jona» festival, the Zurich-based creative agency Gestalten designed and implemented the entire communications campaign. The goal was to position Rapperswil-Jona—beyond its image as the «City of Roses»—as a pioneer in sustainable urban development.
After months of intensive preparation by volunteers from the Green City Rapperswil-Jona association, their efforts culminated in the successful staging of the city festival last weekend. The diverse program included exhibitions, talks, and workshops on urban visions, urban gardening, and sustainability, as well as installations such as pop-up gardens, an urban forest, and works of art—all of which encouraged participation.
Communication as a Bridge Between Vision and Experience at Green City Days
The communications project was led by Flora Frommelt, a member of the executive board at Gestalten. As a dedicated resident of Rapperswil and a board member of the Green City Rapperswil-Jona association, the project was particularly close to her heart. «It’s inspiring to see how communication can help bring green visions for our city to life,» said Frommelt.
The festival generated widespread public interest and demonstrated how creative communication can translate socially relevant topics into a local context. The collaboration between the creative agency and the nonprofit organization is a prime example of how civic engagement and professional communication efforts can work hand in hand.
