Swiss crisis communication expert Patrick Senn won the Excellence Award at the international Speaker Slam in Mastershausen, Germany, at the weekend. He beat off competition from 120 participants from 18 countries.

The Speaker Slam is an event at which keynote speakers regularly compete to convince the jury with a speech in just four minutes. Powerpoint slides are not permitted - so the speakers have to convince with their words alone.

Focus on crisis communication

Senn, who regularly appears in the media on topics relating to communication, was particularly pleased that he was able to get through with his topic of crisis communication: «For me, the award is also proof that we have succeeded in showing the jury and the audience how important it is today for personalities and organizations to position themselves in such a way that they remain capable of acting in a crisis situation and master communication in the event of an incident.»

In the preliminary round on Tuesday, Senn analyzed the recent Swiss media crisis surrounding the fall of fallen national ice hockey coach Patrick Fischer - the contribution catapulted him straight into the final.

Live broadcast from the Scherer Studios

The most recent Speaker Slam took place at Scherer Studios in Mastershausen, Germany - the home of German marketing guru and top speaker Hermann Scherer, who was also a member of the jury. The event was broadcast live on several channels, including YouTube, and followed by experts around the globe.

Patrick Senn is an expert in crisis communication and management and speaks on this topic at conferences and industry events. As a former media professional, he is very familiar with the mechanisms of the media business and explains in an entertaining and well-founded manner how to act correctly in event and crisis situations in order to avoid becoming a victim of media scandalization.
