Swiss journalist and publicist Karl Lüönd has died at the age of 80, SRF reports. Lüönd shaped the Swiss media landscape for decades: he began his career as a freelancer and Central Switzerland correspondent for major daily newspapers, was a member of the editorial board of "Blick" in the 1970s and founded "Züri-Woche" in 1982, which he headed for 17 years. He later co-founded the free newspaper "Neues Sonntagsblatt" with Beat Curti and worked as a freelance author and journalist for many years.

In addition to his journalistic work, Lüönd has published numerous non-fiction books and company biographies. He also headed the Media Institute of the Swiss Media Association. In 2007, Lüönd was awarded the Zurich Journalism Prize for his life's work and it was only in May 2025 that he celebrated his 80th birthday in the media industry.
